GTA 5 gameplay trailer launches

Rockstar has released the first GTA 5 gameplay trailer, showing how players can swap between characters during missions.

Players can switch between each of the three main characters even during missions, which is showcased in the newly released GTA 5 gameplay trailer included below.

Swapping between Trrevor, Franklin and Michael is possible during missions to change the perspective of the current action. This is shown in a fast paced action sequence where the player changes between Michael breeching a window to attack a room full of enemies, and Franklin, perched on an opposite rooftop with a sniper rifle picking off attackers.

“When not on a mission, the use of three lead characters also allow for a touch of voyeurism as you can drop in at any moment and find out what your new friends have been up to as they go about their days,” explains Rockstar in the gameplay trailer.

A vast expansive world, around three times larger than the Red Dead Redemption landscape, is filled with new activities to experience. It seems like it plays on the comedic and enjoyable aspects of life rather than the dark, gritty storyline of GTA 4, more akin to GTA: San Andreas.

“The game world is beautiful massive and diverse. A sprawling satirical reimagining of modern Southern California covering mountains and oceans, expensive stores and strip malls, urban decay and untouched wilderness, beaches and backwoods, the sublime and the ridiculous, greed and hypocrisy.”

“The world is not only huge, it’s packed with a vast array of things to see and do: cars to customise; planes to fly; clothes to buy; sports to play; nirvanas to pursue; oceans to dive; animals to spot, hunt and be hunted by; freaks to watch, meet and befriend; bounties to hunt; and on and on.”

The GTA 5 game mechanics have also been improved for the game, which includes the weapon aiming and functioning, driving and even bike riding.

As for the missions it seems Rockstar has enabled players to be more creative with the execution of each major heists, making all the key decisions themselves.

“To survive they have to set up and pull of a series of increasingly audacious heists. The player sets things up themselves, then decides how they execute them and with whom.”

Rockstar Games will also be showing off GTA 5 multiplayer in the near future so look out for that.

GTA 5 is available for PS3 and Xbox 360 on September 17.
