Moto X will not launch on July 11, confirms Motorola

The Moto X will not be launching at a Motorola press event on July 11 , because no such event ever existed.

Motorola has confirmed that there is no press event occurring on July 11, so we won’t be seeing the Moto X this week, or any other Android devices the smartphone manufacturer was reportedly launching on Thursday.

A teaser page launched by Motorola confirmed the Moto X smartphone last week, followed shortly a product page and an image with two people in the shape of an X and a I. This was taken to mean something was happening on July 11.

This picture, combined with several other rumours including one from tech broadcaster and blogger Leo Laporte, suggested that Motorola was holding an exclusive press event to launch its eagerly awaited flagship handset.

Apparently the event on July 11 is a private affair being held by Guy Kawasaki, a former Apple employee who recently made the move to Motorola. He is holding a private gathering for friends, with no product announcements or launches.

Moto X Rumours

The recently launch Moto X advertising campaign revealed that the smartphone will be the first that “you can design yourself”. It is expect that users will have access to a basic outline of a smartphone similar to the Google Nexus 5 to use and will then be able to create their own casing.

“The first smartphone designed, engineered and assembled in the USA is coming,” reads the Moto X news sign up page. “It’s also the first smartphone that you can design yourself. Because today you should have the freedom to design the things in your life to be as unique as you are.”

The Moto X is said to pack a 4.7-inch 1280 x 768p resolution display powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 CPU.
