A second-gen Tesco tablet is on the cards as the supermarket giant confirms plans for a Tesco Hudl 2 launch event on October 3.
Although the retailer recently confirmed it had scrapped plans to enter the smartphone race, a Hudl 2 tablet remained firmly on the cards. Now, it appears such a device will be with us in just a matter of days.
As well as confirming the tablet’s existence by allow eager consumers to register their interest in the Hudl 2 via a dedicated webpage, Tesco has issued invites to an October 3 event. According to Engadget, Tesco has adorned the invites with the hashtag #Letshudl, leaving little to the imagination for what’s to come.
On the device’s teaser page, a colour changing banner appears to hint at the variety of hues the upcoming tablet will be available in. As well as the traditional black, more vibrant tones, including orange, purple and turquoise are featured.
Although little is currently known about the Hudl 2, it is expected Tesco will retain its wallet-friendly, entry-level price point while handing the device a significant specs bump.
Tesco even suggested earlier this month that the Hudl 2 could be good enough to become users’ primary, not secondary computing device.
"In early July, I took the decision that we would put the phone on hold and concentrate on the Hudl 2 tablet,” Tesco’s multichannel director, Robin Terrell said.
He added: “Where the first Hudl was used by many as a secondary device, Hudl 2 has the capability to take its place as customers’ primary tablet in the home.
“We are very excited and when we launch it in the next few weeks I think customers will be too. The opportunity remains strong in the tablet market.”
