Samsung has decided to bring forward the release of the Galaxy Note 4 phablet in South Korea following the iPhone 6 Plus’ hot start on opening weekend.
The Korea Times brings word from an unnamed Samsung executive who claims the ‘positive reaction’ from Apple consumers has prompted Samsung to play its hand ‘earlier than previously scheduled’
The phablet will now go on sale on September 26 in Samsung’s homeland, rather than in October. That’s the same day as Apple expands iPhone 6 and 6 Plus availability in 20 outer countries around the world.
Right now it is unclear whether release dates in Europe or the United States will also be altered.
Currently the Galaxy Note 4 is slated to go on sale in the UK on October 10 , while consumers in the US will get it a week later on October 17, almost a full month after the launch of Apple’s devices.
The protracted release schedule is a slight embarrassment for Samsung, considering it announced the Galaxy Note 4 more than a week before Apple’s keynote on September 12.
In the meantime, Apple claims to have sold 10m iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus handsets in its opening weekend, a record for the firm.
In the Korea Times story the Samsung exec is quotes as saying: “The positive reaction from consumers to those two Apple devices prompted us to launch the Note 4 earlier than previously scheduled. Samsung will be aggressive in promoting the Note 4 as it’s true that we are being challenged and pressured amid a difficult situation."
