Is this Dyson's first robot vacuum?
The first Dyson robot vacuum cleaner could be officially unveiled next week, as the manufacturer teases its big IFA announcement.
Building hype ahead of its September 4 announcement, vacuum cleaner specialist Dyson has released a teaser video (below) for its top secret project.
Although failing to make direct reference to a robot cleaner, the teaser video shows a number of autonomous devices scuttling across the floor. What’s more, it show’s CAD set ups of a distinctly robot vacuum looking device working out how to navigate corners.
Dubbed ‘Dyson Project N223’, the new device will be officially showcased during the Berlin-based show next week.
Offering further hints as to what’s to come, a Dyson spokesperson has told us: “This launch has been a long time coming as it has been 16 years and worked on by 200 engineers.”
Although Dyson has yet to release any robotic cleaners, the company has been far from coy on discussing its work in the area.
Speaking with TrustedReviews back in late 2012, Dyson founder and engineering mastermind James Dyson confirmed the company’s plans to get into the robotics space.
“We’ve been developing robotic vacuum cleaners for years, a long time, and we will come out with one that works,” he told us.
Echoing James Dyson’s comments, Toby Saville, a Product Performance Engineer from the company told us: “Ever since I can remember, robot vacuum cleaners have been of interest to Dyson and I’ve been here 11 years.
“It is a very key project for James and I think he does believe that for a vacuum cleaner, robotics can be a very important element.”
He added: “For us, we’ve always been working on a robotic vacuum cleaner and James makes no secret of that, however, as he said we are not going to bring that to market until we are happy we can concentrate the technology down even smaller more still.”
We will be on hand at IFA 2014 to check out Dyson’s new wares so stay tuned to TrustedReviews for all the latest.
