The Pebble smartwatch is no longer the most-funded project in Kickstarter history, with that honour now passing over to a cooler. But not just any cooler.
The Coolest Cooler is just about the ultimate cooler. And it’s just eclipsed Pebble’s record of $10.2 million (£6.14m) to reach $10.4 million at time of writing – we’re sure the ensuing publicity will result in another tidal wave of funding.
That’s all the more impressive when you consider the original target was a mere $50,000 (£30,000).
So why all the fuss? The Coolest Cooler doesn’t just keep your food and drinks cool, it also packs a built-in ice-crushing blender, so you can knock up a few smoothies. Or margaritas, if you’re in the mood.
It also has a waterproof Bluetooth speaker for blasting out tunes, and a USB charger for juicing up your gadgets.
But that’s just the start of the picnic iceberg. It also has an LED light, for if the party goes on after sunset, a gear tie-down to help you transport it, and its very own chopping board, which you can use for food or for cutting lemon and lime to go in your drinks.
And then there’s the extra wide tyres for easy rolling even over rough terrain, built-in storage space for plates and a knife, and the all-important bottle opener.
You can pledge your support now over on the Kickstarter page, starting at just $5.
The Coolest Cooler is expected to ship in January or February – not the ideal time of year, but nevertheless, it’ll be good to have it on hand for next summer.
