Microsoft will begin “testing” Xbox One digital games discounts starting tomorrow, February 18.

From Tuesday February 18, Microsoft will experiment will introducing select Xbox One game discounts via the games store.

According to Mike Ybarra, Studio Manager for Xbox, Microsoft will start the digital game price drop experiment with Ryse: Son of Rome following a wealth of fan feedback.

“Lots of people asked for better deals on our digital marketplace,” said Ybarra on Twitter. “So we’re testing some and [from] 2/18 through 2/24 you can get Ryse: Son of Rome off digital marketplace for $39.99.Special deal on add ons starts from 2/25.”

Ybarra also revealed that the deals would not be exclusive to the US, and would be available for UK Xbox One owners as well.

UK Ryse: Son of Rome digital promotion price will be £34.99 – confirmed with Marketing group”, he added in a later tweet.

Currently the UK pricing for the digital edition of Ryse: Son of Rome is a whopping £49.99, so you’ll be able to get a £15 discount with the promotional offer.

“That’s far better than the used price at GameStop and others! Go digital!”

Last month Larry Hryb, Director of Programming for Xbox Live (aka Major Nelson) confirmed that competitive digital pricing for Xbox One digital games was “on the agenda”, following a Reddit thread discussion.

Microsoft was heavily criticised by fans for raising the prices of key digital Xbox One exclusive from £44.99 to £49.99 in December, which included titles like Ryse, Forza 5 and Dead Rising 3.

All Xbox One and PS4 digital titles cost more than their physical copy counterparts, but hopefully Microsoft will start the ball rolling by introducing this preliminary price drop.
