Nokia EOS PureView camera phone to be launched as Lumia 1020?

The Nokia EOS, or Lumia 1020, is likely to debut on July 11th

The long-rumoured, often-leaked Nokia Pureview Windows Phone device will be called the Lumia 1020 when it arrives next month, according to reports.

The purported 41-megapixel camera phone, codenamed EOS, is rumoured for launch at the company's press event in New York on July 11th.

The word comes from serial Nokia leak artist @evleaks who tweeted: "EOS = Nokia Lumia 1020" on Tuesday afternoon

The device would be the first Lumia Windows Phone handset to graduate beyond three figure naming conventions.

In the past the devices have earned higher model numbers depending on their size and prestige, with the Lumia 925 considered to be the company's most high-end model to date.

Heading into four figures could perhaps signal the the pinnacle of Nokia's work on the Windows Phone platform.

The EOS/Lumia 1020 is the most eagerly anticipated device since Nokia and Microsoft joined forces in 2011 and perhaps represents the best chance for the pair to gain ground on Apple and Android manufacturers like Samsung.

The Pureview camera tech first emerged on the 808 Pureview device over a year ago.

However, despite the large sensor impressing many observers around the world, the presence of the dying Symbian OS meant it was a non-starter for the company in terms of sales.

Nokia has been promising a PureView Windows Phone ever since and it appears the company is finally ready to show its hand. Well, what's left of its hand after all those leaks.
