EE has launched a unique mobile 4G hotspot for Glastonbury festival goers in the form of a modified tractor.
The UK network provider has customised Worthy Farm’s eco-friendly tractor to provide what it is calling the world’s “slowest fastest” 4G hotspot at Glastonbury this weekend.
Part of EE’s partnership with the Glastonbury Festival, the bespoke tractor allows festival attendees to trial the superfast 4G network for free.
Recognisable by its new aqua and yellow EE paintjob, EE will be announcing the 4G Tractor’s whereabouts via the official @EE Twitter account. Anyone within a 10m radius of the tractor will be able to try out the 4G Wi-Fi connection, regardless of their current network provider.
“We couldn’t be more excited about this year’s Glastonbury where we will be installing the first ever superfast 4G network at a UK festival to help those on site stay connected”, said Spencer McHugh, Brand Director at EE. “Our 4G Tractor demonstrates the innovative approach we’re taking to bringing the fastest mobile speeds to the UK in a uniquely Glastonbury way and uses similar technology to our fleet of 4G cabs trialled earlier this year.”
The tractor is powered by bio-diesel and is part of a fleet of machines that look after the Worthy Farm land all-year-round. However, for this weekend, this particular tractor has been kitted out with network equipment to turn it into a mobile hotspot, and a custom paintjob to boot.
“We hope festival goes enjoy logging on to the EE-pimped eco-tractor if they see it over the weekend.”
Glastonbury 2013 is the first festival to be 4G-enabled, as EE has installed a 4G network on the site that also powers the 4G Tractor.
EE has also built two recharge tent where festival goers can recharge their smartphones for free or access the free Wi-Fi.
