YouView has launched an Android app, offering access to its TV guide and other functions for the first time on a Google OS device.
Already available for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch, YouView has now launched its app for Android smartphones and tablets.
The Android app allows customers to browse through the YouView television guide, which offers over 70 digital TV and radio listings for the week ahead.
YouView set top box users can also remotely record their favourite programmes or set-up a series link using the app. Of course, they will have to pair their Android or iOS device with the YouView box to use the remote record service.
On the Android app, like the iOS option, YouView programme schedules are presented with a now showing and coming next option, or users can opt to view day by day listings for their selected channel.
The Android app also presents all the information the viewer may need to know about any showing programme.
Developed by YouView itself, the app is compatible with all YouView boxes, including the successful YouView Humax DTR-T1000.
Claimed to be the fastest-growing TV service in Britain, YouView is now being used in 400,000 homes across the UK, in just eight month since it launched.
Most YouView set top boxes are sold as part of broadband bundles from BT or Talk Talk, but they can also be bought separately from retailers like John Lewis for around £299.
Each YouView box can be paired with up to five devices, meaning all the family can have access to the Android or iOS apps and the remote record feature.
Available to download for free from the Google Play store from today, the YouView app for Android is compatible with devices running Android 2.3 and up. However, YouView suggests that the app has been optimised for the Samsung Galaxy S3 , Samsung Galaxy S2, HTC One S, Samsung Galaxy Ace and the Google Nexus 4.
It can also be downloaded for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch via the iTunes App Store for free.
