Sony Xperia Z owners rejoice, Android 4.2.2 is coming your way

Following the Sony Xperia Z Ultra unveiling this morning, latest reports have suggested the Android 4.2.2 Sony Xperia Z update has started rolling out.

Bringing the 5-inch handset in line with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the Google Nexus 4, Sony Xperia Z owners have today reported the Android 4.2.2 update being made available for their waterproof phones. Sony announced this morning that the 6.4-inch Sony Xperia Ultra will come preinstalled with the latest iteration of Google’s mobile OS.

Available as an over-the-air patch, the Android 4.2.2 Sony Xperia Z update sees the iPhone 5 rival benefit from a few software improvements, including a selection of new lock screen widgets. Recent leaks have suggested the Android 4.2 HTC One update will begin rolling out in July, leaving the Taiwanese manufacturer’s flagship phone lagging slightly behind its closest rivals.

While a selection of Sony Xperia Z users have suggested the Android 4.2 update is now obtainable via a forced check of the handset’s update settings, as with all Android updates, UK network approval is required before it is rolled out to contracted handset owners.

Sony Xperia Z Features

Arguably Sony’s most impressive handset to date, the Sony Xperia Z sees a 5-inch, 1080p Full HD LCD display with a 441 pixels-per-inch image density take pride of place on the 7.9mm thick IP57, water, dust and drop proof body.

With a 1.5GHz quad-core processor running the show alongside the Android innards and a 2330 mAh Lithium-Ion battery, the Sony Xperia Z specs sheet is further enhanced by 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, expandable via microSD.

With a 13.1-megapixel camera taking pride of place on the handset’s rear, the Sony Xperia Z features list sees a second, 2.2-megapixel snapper sit up front alongside 1080p Full HD video recording capabilities.
