Ellie from The Last of Us
Ellen Page has admitted the distinct likeness of Ellie from new PS3 exclusive, The Last of Us, was “not appreciated”.
Speaking out as part of a Reddit Ask Me Anything session, Page revealed the similarities between her and Ellie were “not appreciated”, especially due to her role in upcoming game Beyond: Two Souls.
Posting under the username, Iamatinycanadian, the actress did acknowledge the resemblance, stating that her likeness was “ripped off” in The Last of Us.
“This has almost certainly been made clear to you several times, but are you aware how much you look like Ellie from The Last of Us, a video game which came out about a week ago?,” posted one Reddit user. “She even sounds like you. So much so that almost everyone assumed it was you playing the role.”
“I guess I should be flattered that they ripped off my likeness, but I am actually acting in a video game called Beyond Two Souls, so it was not appreciated”, responded Page.
The character of Ellie is actually played by American actress Ashley Johnson, who provided the voice and motion-capture for the character.
In original concept drawings for the character, Ellie actually looked even more like Page, but developer Naughty Dog subsequently redesigned her to look more like Johnson for the final version of the game.
What’s particularly interesting is that Page doesn’t say that she didn’t appreciate the resemblance, which may suggest that Quantic Dream, the developers of upcoming Sony exclusive Beyond: Two Souls and Heavy Rain, were disappointed with the likeness.
Both The Last of Us and Beyond: Two Souls are both published by Sony Computer Entertainment.
Quantic Dream and Sony have set the Beyond: Two Souls release date as October 11, landing exclusively for the PS3. It also stars Willem Dafoe alongside Page.
