A PS4 price tag flirting on £600 is sure to deter many gamers
The PS4 price has emerged and it looks set to give your wallet a bashing, with Amazon listing the console for a penny shy of £600.
Although Sony has yet to confirm an official PS4 price, a number of retailers have taken speculative approaches to the console’s price tag with Amazon UK today listing the Xbox One rival alongside a lofty £599.99 marker.
Allowing customers to pre-order the device for smidge under £600, Amazon has also set the Xbox One price at £599.99. Although allowing gamers to splash their cash, and a considerable amount of it at that, Amazon has stated this is unlikely to be the console’s final price.
Something of a worst case scenario for when the official prices are confirmed, Amazon has issued an alert that the PS4 price listed is a ‘placeholder’. The retail stated: “Please note that there are no official prices announced for PlayStation 4 products. The price stated above is a placeholder.”
While it is unlikely that Amazon’s PS4 advanced orders will get too many takers at that price, the online retail giant has confirmed that should the final price be lower than the £599.99 list fee, it will refund early adopters the difference.
The company’s pre-order price guarantee states: “Order now and if the Amazon.co.uk price decreases between the time you place your order and the release date, you'll be charged the lowest price.”

With a PS4 release date set for the “2013 holiday season,” Sony’s next-gen console will be in retailers and gamers’ homes ahead of the Christmas period.
Powered by an eight-core processor and 8GB of RAM, the PS4 is set to pair a core gaming base with improved entertainment and multimedia capabilities. A direct rival to the Xbox One, further PS4 details will be unveiled at a Sony press conference on June 10, the day before E3 2013 kicks off officially.
While Sony has confirmed it is saving the unveiling of the PS4 design until June 10, the Japanese manufacturer has already showcased the new PS4 controller. Known as the DualShock 4, the refreshed controller plays host to a touchpad interface and a new ‘Share’ button for improved online activity.
