It’s about to become a whole lot easier to switch to on-demand TV, with dedicated Netflix buttons to start gracing the remotes of UK-bound smart TVs.

Already a common sight on American televisions, the dedicated Netflix control is to become a European reality later this year, with a number of leading TV manufacturers already signed up to the plan.

The addition of a dedicated Netflix button should help remove the faff currently associated with scrolling through smart TVs’ extensive menu systems for the correct icon.

Currently the UK’s most popular subscription-based on-demand content provider, Netflix has confirmed partnerships with the likes of Sony, Panasonic, Phlips, Toshiba and Vestel have all been agreed.

The new Netflix button on remotes in Europe makes watching Netflix as easy as changing the channel on traditional TV, allowing viewers to enjoy our great programming much quicker,” Bill Holmes, Netflix’s Head of Business Development said in unveiling the plan.

Neil Hunt, the company’s Chief Product Officer, added: “For members who want even more convenience when instantly watching TV shows and movies streaming from Netflix, the answer is about to be right in their hands.”

Not restricted to television sets, the quick-access Netflix button will also adorn the remotes of internet-connected Blu-ray players.

Specific models to adopt the new remote-based features have yet to be confirmed. However, with the CES 2015 unveiled fleet of smart TVs set to hit retailers in the coming weeks, we wouldn’t expect the arrival to be too far away.
