Wirelessly charging your smartphone in the UK will soon become as easy as ordering a Quarter Pounder with Cheese.

At CES 2015, Aircharge has announced plans to install 600 Qi wireless charging hotspots at 50 McDonald’s restaurants across the nation.

According to the American fast food giant (via Android Central), trial runs at UK stores proved so popular that some McNugget-munching customers were prepared to wait up to half an hour to use the stations.

Now the scheme is rolling out to more locations, allowing those with Qi-enabled phones - of which there are over 70 on the market according to Aircharge - to recharge while they recharge.

Handsets with integrated Qi tech aren’t that common, but among the more recent releases are the Nexus 6 from Google and the Nokia Lumia 1520.

If, like most folks, you have a handset devoid of Qi-charging wizardry, Maccies will provide you with a wireless charging receiver to plug into your handset while you chow down your Big Mac.

Hopefully the wireless charging hotspots help smartphones keep going for the rest of the day rather than work well for five minutes before crashing for the rest of afternoon, like we do after eating McDonald’s food.

The introduction of wireless charging isn’t the only tech addition to Maccies locations lately. The firm is also testing touchscreen tablets to allow users to “choose their taste” and create custom gourmet burgers from a range of bread, cheese, topping and sauce selections.
