Kodak IM5
As expected, Kodak has announced its first ever smartphone, the Kodak IM5, at CES 2015.
The IM5 is an affordable 5-inch Android phone with an emphasis on taking quick and easy snaps and selfies, and then sharing them without hassle.
The device represents a joint venture between legendary (if massively diminished) photographic brand Kodak and mobile device manufacturer Bullitt Group. Bullit tends to specialise in ruggedised phone designs, which it then licenses out to non-smartphone related brands.
It appears to have built a solid if unspectacular smartphone handset, with a 5-inch 720p display and an octa-core 1.7GHz processor from MediaTek backed by 1GB of RAM. There'll be 8GB of internal storage, with a microSD card slot for expansion.
Still, with that Kodak branding, all attention is going to be on the IM5's photographic chops. To that end, it comes with a respectable-looking 13-megapixel main camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing unit.
The Kodak IM5 runs on Android 4.4, with the inevitable upgrade to Android 5.0 Lollipop said to be coming later in the year. Its custom interface appears to be a very basic effort with a few chunkier-than-normal icons for key features and apps.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the PR blurb claims that the Koda IM5 is "Aimed at consumers who want a smartphone that is easier to use than what they are currently using (or being offered)."
The IM5 will launch in Europe late in the first quarter ahead of a global roll-out. It'll have a distinctly affordable price tag of just $249, which translates to around £164.
