In the wake yesterday’s LG G Flex 2 unveiling, LG has suggested curved displays could make their way to its flagship phone lines in the future.
Although the G Flex 2 is set to be introduced to a number of global markets, including the UK, the innovative device, which features a 700 radius curve across the length of its body, will only be available in limited quantities – and with a heavily inflated price tag.
Speaking with TrustedReviews, however, LG’s Head of Smartphone Planning, Dr. Ramchan Woo, has hinted that the company is already working on making this technology a more mainstream proposition.
“Maybe [curved screens could be included on future flagship phones]. There is the opportunity,” he told us.
“When we look at the market response of G Flex, that was far better than we expected. Depending on the reaction of G Flex 2, there is an opportunity that this technology could be brought to the mainstream.
“At the moment the G3 is like the BMW 7 Series and the G Flex 2 is like BMW Z4.”
Until curved panels are a more mainstream option, Dr. Woo has suggested LG will continue to find uses for the technology on more left-field product lines.
“I don’t know if we will release a new G Flex model ever year. We are really open to this though,” he stated.
“When you have a new line like G Flex, our intention is to keep it going for as long as possible.”

Although it is unlikely LG will introduce a curved panel to its 2015 flagship offering, the manufacturer has told us it will ‘experiment’ with the upcoming LG G4.
“I think we will [experiment with our high-end phones]. I think we have to,” Ken Hong, LG’s Director of Corporate Communications said speaking with TrustedReviews.
“If you look at the specs only, there are other competitors with similar-spec phones. How do you stand out in that pile if you’re not doing something different?
“I don’t think we are going to be able to sit back and expect people are just going to fawn over the G4, or whatever the name will be, just because they liked the G3.
