Tim Cook announces WatchKit dev kit for Apple Watch

Apple’s CEO Tim Cook has just announced a developer kit for Apple Watch.

The new kit, dubbed ‘WatchKit’, will enable developers to create apps for the device and test out the hardware.

Apple Watch">We are rolling out WatchKit next month, in time for developers to do some fantastic work before we start shipping Apple Watch ,” explained Tim Cook.

Cook says Apple’s been working with ‘selected third-party developers’ on the watch already, but WatchKit will share the love to more devs worldwide.

The Apple CEO says he wants "many other developers" to "join this party".

Apple Watch, touted by Cook as "powerful technology right on your wrist", will be landing early next year.

The smartwatch was first announced last month, with Apple showing off over 30 different design styles of the new wearable.

The Apple Watch is the firm’s first foray into wearable tech, and will work seamlessly with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

Apple Watch is also expected to work with Apple Pay, allowing users to make purchases over NFC using their wrist-borne device.
