Moto wants to replicate its recent Android successes with new tablets

Motorola is planning on building a new tablet as soon as Lenovo’s acquisition of the company from Google is finalised.

According to a report from Yahoo Taiwan, Lenovo’s CEO Yang Yuanquing is set on reviving Moto’s interest in the tablet market for the first time since 2011.

According to the article the devices will be branded as Motorola or Lenovo, depending on the territory in which they’re released. That’s a strategy that’ll also be applied to the smartphone brands in due course, the report claims.

That means the same device might feature Motorola branding in the US and Europe where the Moto name carries more weight, but would be released under the Lenovo name in China.

The report offered no details as to what form the tablets may take, but given Moto’s recent successes with a minimalist approach to modifying Android, it seems fair to suggest they’d run a Nexus-like experience.

Given HTC plans to launch its Nexus 9 tablet on Wednesday, running the Android L operating system, it’ll be interesting to see Motorola’s response, given it was a Google company until quite recently.

Let the Android tablet wars recommence.
