Samsung Galaxy Note 4 features could include three-sided display

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 could feature the first three-sided display, letting you view your notifications at an angle.

It looks like the next Note flagship could be a lot different from its Samsung Galaxy Note 3 predecessor and feature Samsung’s Youm screen technology.

According to a fresh report from ZDNet Korea, the Galaxy Note 4 will utilise a Youm flexible display that curved around the side of the phone to offer quick glance notification information.

This curved display isn’t anything like the Samsung Galaxy Round or LG G Flex, instead having a slanted edge on one side.

Samsung’s Senior VP of Product Strategy teased that the Galaxy Note 4 would feature a “new form factor” earlier this year, but failed to provide any details on the device.

However, this new screen technology would be quite the differentiator between the current and next-gen Note smartphones.

The slanted edge should not only offer quick glance access to notifications, but also let you unlock/lock the device and scroll through app windows among other features.

The patents have been around for some time, but even analysts believe the folded design will be used for the Galaxy Note 4.

“The bent device is the first step towards testing the market and gauging how it would react to its foldable smartphones that are to be unveiled in the second half of next year,” said Song Jong-ho, analyst at KDB Daewoo Securities in Seoul. “The foldable phone would be the next Samsung flagship phone.”

Samsung has already confirmed it is targeting users with bigger budgets for the Galaxy Note 4 and we have no doubt that such a unique design would be reflected in the price.

“We are targeting consumers who want more professional use and tend to be willing to pay more for handsets,” said Lee Young Hee, Executive VP of Samsung Mobile.
