Minecraft for PS4 and PS Vita coming Q2/Q3

Mojang has pencilled in release dates for Minecraft: PS4 Edition and Minecraft: PS Vita Edition for some time in Q2/Q3 this year.

Although the developer hasn’t provided specific dates yet, at least we know that the two Minecraft edition will arrive in the coming months.

“Yes – we are planning to release on PS4 and Vita at around Q2 – Q3 this year,” said Mojang’s Owen Hill to Polygon. “We’re not able to share more specific dates yet though, sorry. We’d rather be vague than disappoint people! They probably won’t be released simultaneously. We’re going to release on each format as soon as it’s ready.”

Mojang hasn’t yet revealed whether there will be cross-buy or upgrade options for the latest editions of the world building game, but will provide more information as and when it is available.

“We’ll have more news on cross-buy/upgrade options soon! I understand that the wait is frustrating but we don’t want to make false promises”, said Hill in the PlayStation EU blog comments section.

The developer does plan to allow PS3 Minecraft gamers to transfer their creations to the PS4 version, but claims it is “still working out how it’ll work with the Vita version.”

“We’re still testing PS3-Vita save compatibility, along with a lot of other things,” added Hill. “It’s too early to confirm what will or won’t make it in.”

As for PS Vita discounts, Mojang suggests there might be a price reduction for those looking to purchase the handheld version who already own the PS3 digital edition.

The Minecraft: PS4 Edition was initially expected to be a PS4 launch title, but was pushed back to 2014 with an unspecified release date.
