Huawei tips its hat to Apple and the iPhone

Huawei has spoken out on the state of the smartphone market, stating that Apple’s rival iPhone is “the best model for the 3G experience.”

In a strangely open statement, the Chinese manufacturer has looked over its own smartphone offerings and praised the impact of its market leading competitor.

Despite the good words, however, Huawei has predicted that as more consumers move across to 4G networks, users will step away from Apple’s handset lines.

The iPhone is the best model for the 3G experience,” Shao Yang, Huawei’s Chief Marketing Officer said.

He added: “When 4G really comes, the different user scenarios and applications will need different designs.”

Speaking exclusively with TrustedReviews, the Huawei exec claimed that as smartphone users become more reliant on 4G connections and increase their streaming habits and multimedia consumption, they will move to handsets with bigger screens and improved audio.

Although Yang has highlighted the iPhone as offering a leading smartphone experience, the Huawei exec has suggested that the market has become too reliant on Apple’s handset.

“It is an important time to look at the future of smartphones because currently a lot of phones are looking very much like the iPhone,” he told us.

This comment feels particularly rich given last year’s Huawei Ascend P6 launch – a phone which looks to have been crafted in the shadow of the iPhone 5S form factor.
