Samsung Knox 2.0 launched, pre-installed on Galaxy S5

Samsung has launched Samsung Knox 2.0, the second generation of its enterprise orientated security software.

Knox 2.0 introduces a new service called Knox Marketplace, which essentially gives you a secure, business focused app store jam-packed with familiar names like anymeeting, Box and GoToMeeting.

Well, we say jam-packed, but Knox Marketplace is currently home to just under 150 apps. We don’t think that will be too much of an issue though, as how many business apps do you really need?

That said, Samsung said there are other enterprise companies already working on bringing their apps to the Knox Marketplace.

Samsung has partnered with business cloud service company AppDirect to launch Knox Marketplace, and the service is password locked. Active Directory and single sign-in are both supported with the latest Knox 2.0 and the new Marketplace.

Aside from the Knox Marketplace, Knox 2.0 also has some other new features. These include enterprise mobility management tools, consolidated billing and VPN .

You’ll also get access to certificate management and an enhanced container.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 will come pre-installed with the latest Knox 2.0 enterprise software when it is released on April 11.

Knox 2.0 will also take advantage of the Galaxy S5’s new fingerprint scanner embedded in the home button, just as Apple did with the Touch ID sensor in the iPhone 5S.

Other Samsung devices will also be able to install Knox 2.0 later this year, with a full rollout starting in Q2 2014.

However, your device will need to run on Android 4.4 KitKat before you’ll be able to upgrade to Knox 2.0, so you might want to look out for the KitKat rollout first.
