Huawei Ascend Y530 unveiled as budget Android phone

Huawei has expanded its budget smartphone line, with the Chinese manufacturer officially unveiling the 4.5-inch Huawei Ascend Y530.

With the growing manufacturer having put added focus on more high-end handsets in recent months, in the form of the super slim Huawei Ascend P6 and Huawei Ascend Mate 2 phablet, the company has returned to its budget smartphone roots with its latest offering.

“Huawei has built a smartphone that will appeal to individuals who are looking for a fantastic smartphone entertainment experience that is both affordable and, as importantly, simple and easy to navigate and use,” Rhys Saunders, the company’s UK Sales Director said of the Y530.

Huawei Ascend Y530 Features

Highlighting the continuing progression of the smartphone scene, the Huawei Ascend Y530, although a budget, entry-level handset, features an array of specs more akin to recent mid-market offerings.

Packing a 4.5-inch display, the Huawei Ascend Y530 is larger than most entry-level offerings, with the plastic bodied handset running a standard 854 x 480 pixel resolution.

Powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor, the Huawei Ascend Y530 specs sheet is further enhanced by 512GB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage. Despite many handsets now coming with the latest Android 4.4 KitKat OS, the Y530 runs the older Android 4.3 Jelly Bean OS.

Making the handset more accessible to the masses, the Y530 can be run with the company’s Emotion UI as standard, or with a more streamlined, “Simple Interface.”

With a 5-megapixel rear-mounted camera lining up alongside a secondary, VGA snapper up front, the Huawei Ascend Y530 is rounded off by a 1700mAh Lithium-Ion battery.

Huawei Ascend Y530 Release Date and Price

Available now in black from retailer Argos, the latest Huawei Ascend offering will launch through additional retailers and in a white colour scheme next month. A Huawei Ascend Y530 price has been set at £150.
