With Apple Watch pre-orders set to kick off tomorrow morning, the Cupertino-based company has revealed the wearable will be exclusively available online, at least for now.
Despite letting prospective buyers head into brick and mortar stores to trial the smartwatch, Apple has confirmed that those looking to splash the cash will be forced to do so through the company’s digital channels.
“We are excited to welcome customers tomorrow and introduce them to Apple Watch, our most personal device yet,” Apple’s Senior Vice President of Retail and Online Stores, Angela Ahrendts said.
She added: “To provide the best experience and selection to as many customers as we can, we will be taking orders for Apple Watch exclusively online during the initial launch period.”
Despite revealing that Apple Watch pre-orders will only be able to be placed online, Ahrendts confirmed the timepiece will be available in-store from April 24.
Her confirmation of online exclusivity backs up an internal memo which leaked earlier this week suggesting Apple would be pushing Apple Watch fanciers to make online purchases.
Speaking to staff, she wrote: “The days of waiting in line and crossing fingers for a product are over for our customers.
“The Apple Store app and our online store make it much easier to purchase Apple Watch and the new MacBook. Customers will know exactly when and where their product arrives.
“This is a significant change in mindset, and we need your help to make it happen. Tell your customers we have more availability online, and show them how easy it is to order. You’ll make their day.”
Apple Watch pre-orders will kick off at 8.01am tomorrow in the UK.

For those contemplating whether or not to splash the cash, wannabe owners and nosey tech fans alike will be able to sample the smartwatch in a variety of locations tomorrow.
As well as offering devices to trial in all Apple Stores in the UK, US, Canada, China, Australia, France, Germany, Hong Kong and Japan, the Moto 360 rival will be available to view in a selection of boutiques.
Joining Selfridges on London’s Oxford Street, Isetan in Tokyo and Galeries Lafayette in Paris will like prospective punters test the device.
