Asus has hinted that the ZenWatch 2 will see its battery life bumped up from the 2-day charge cycles of its predecessor.
The Taiwanese firm launched its first smartwatch last September, but struggled to justify the lacklustre lifespan.
Fortunately for wearable fanatics, Asustek Chairman Jonney Shih told Taiwanese press he thinks Asus’ next flagship wrist-hugger will need a spec jump.
“The ZenWatch is defined by us as a companion of a smartphone, and we think it still has a lot of room for improvement,” Shih said, as reported by FocusTaiwan.
“As a companion device, its central processing unit and operating system should be more simplified than the current version, so that I can use it for up to seven days on one charge, rather than for just two days.”
The current ZenWatch touts a 1.63-inch AMOLED touch display coated in curved glass, a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 processor, 512MB of RAM, and 4GB of built-in storage.

We’re currently expecting the ZenWatch 2 sometime in Q3 this year, with rumours pointing to a SIM-card toting device that will offer voice calling sans a paired smartphone.
Whether Asus makes good on its promise to boost battery life remains to be seen, but it’s at least encouraging that the firm accepts two day charge cycles aren’t good enough.
One possible boon to Asus’ manufacturing process could be that both MediaTek and Qualcomm are reportedly working on ‘simplified’ wearable SoCs (as noted by GForGames), which could bring about a battery life upgrade.
