A new report suggests Samsung will make its upcoming flagship smartphones compatible with the Gear VR.

Currently the Gear VR buddies up with the Galaxy Note 4, but Sammobile reckons two more devices will be added to the VR roster.

The devices in question are the Samsung Galaxy S6, and its purported Note Edge-style cousin, the Samsung Galaxy S Edge.

It makes perfect sense – Samsung announced its Gear VR back at IFA 2014, simultaneously launching the Galaxy Note 4.

The S6 and S Edge would be the firm’s first flagships since the Gear VR launched, so there’s no reason why Samsung wouldn’t be keen to pad outs the headset’s device list in an effort to improve sales.

What’s interesting to note is that while the Note 4 touts a 5.7-inch display, the S6 and S Edge both look likely to use smaller 5.1-inch panels.

This poses a big problem because the Gear VR, at present, offers no way to re-adjust for form factors other than the Note 4.

One obvious solution to this would be Samsung releasing a Gear VR 2, or Gear VR variant, specifically designed for your handset of choice.

This wouldn’t be too difficult while there are only two different screen sizes, but it could become an issue down the line when Samsung opts for different display measurements.

This rumour is definitely one to watch, so we’ll keep you posted as soon as we find out more.
