Russian security firm Kaspersky has released its predictions for 2015 and, as you'd expect, the outlook is pretty grim.

The company says that digital payment systems, especially Apple Pay, which went live in the US in October but is set for a European launch next year, to attract plenty of attention from consumers and cybercriminals alike.

Such products have long been obvious targets for hackers, but Kaspersky reckons that Apple’s own release will make 2015 one the most devastating years for these attacks yet.

"Previous attacks have focused on NFC payment systems but, thanks to limited adoption, these have reaped limited rewards,” reads the report. “Apple Pay is bound to change that. The enthusiasm over this new payment platform is going to drive adoption through the roof and that will inevitably attract many cyber criminals looking to reap the rewards of these transactions."

Kaspersky believes that banks, Internet of Things-enabled devices and smart TVs will be increasingly in the firing line too.

Again concerning Apple, the company expects a rise in the distribution of OS X malware on torrent sites and, following the chaos that surrounded the Heartbleed bug earlier this year, Kaspersky says that 2015 will feature another major "bleed" of sorts.
