Apple has launched its fifth iOS 8 beta to developers, bringing a host of relatively small new features and tweaks.
Whereas previous iOS 8 betas have added major new features to Apple's next mobile operating system, iOS 8 beta 5 is a relatively quiet release.
Among the new additions there's a QuickType toggle, accessed by swiping up on the keyboard, which turns the new predictive text feature on and off.
There's also the option to "Optimise iPhone storage" when it comes to iCloud photos. Tick this box in the Photos settings menu, and only device-optimised versions of photos will be store locally, saving precious gigabytes.
We're also seeing signs of iOS 8's 'Continuity' with OS X Yosemite, with a pop-up asking for permission for a local Mac to use your mobile number for SMS Relay. In the final version, this will shunt your text messages to another Apple device.
The rest of iOS 8 beta 5's new features appear to be minor tweaks, such as new iCloud an Health app icons and a new indicator when a Wi-Fi call is initiated.
We're expecting Apple to launch six beta versions of iOS 8 before the final version officially hits. That means that, with iOS 8 beta 5 hot off the press, we're nearing the operating system's final state.
If Apple follows its previous pattern, we should see iOS 8 rolling out some time in September or possibly October, shortly before the release of the iPhone 6.
