Motorola could launch a 6.3-inch smartphone, or 'phablet,' in the third quarter of 2014.
The new super-sized Moto will apparently launch some time between July and September this year.
This is the rumour being spread by a poster over on China’s Weibo forum, at least. While it might sound like a slightly tenuous source, the tipster has previously been right on the money with predictions concerning Motorola’s Moto X and Moto G smartphones.
It’s also not the first time that rumours of a super-sized Motorola smartphone have circulated. Last year, it was claimed that Motorola was working on a 6.3-inch device called the Motorola Xplay.
Of course, a lot has happened in the world of Motorola since those previous rumours. For one thing, the company is no longer owned by Google, but by Chinese PC giant Lenovo.
However, it’s been claimed that Lenovo won’t interfere with Motorola’s immediate launch plans for 2014 and 2015. With a particularly attractive smartwatch on the roster in the shape of the Moto 360, that seems like a sensible idea.
Whether this new Moto phablet will prove similarly enticing is another matter entirely, of course. There’s been no information on specs beyond the obvious idea that it’ll sport a 6.3-inch display.
Going by Motorola's unique approach to the Moto G and Moto X, we can probably expect the emphasis to be on a class-leading interface rather than class-leading hardware. It seems we’ll have to wait until the third quarter to confirm our suspicions, though.
