Apple is said to be working on a new MacBook Air model with a 12-inch display and a number of design tweaks.
Intriguingly, it’s claimed that this new MacBook Air will not use a fan assembly - typically the primary method for cooling laptop and PC devices.
Another interesting feature mentioned by the report, which comes from a forum posting on Weiphone, is a new type of trackpad. This new trackpad will apparently be without a mechanical button.
Of course, Apple has plenty of experience in the touch and gesture-led interface field.
The poster claims that this new model of the MacBook Air is coming soon, whilst Apple will revise its MacBook Pro range in September.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard news of a potential 12-inch MacBook Air. Back in October, Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities predicted that Apple was set to launch an all-new MacBook with an improved clamshell design.
This device would be even slimmer and lighter than the current MacBook Air range, which comes in 11-inch and 13-inch variants. What’s more, the new 12-inch screen is set to be a Retina display - a first for the MacBook Air range.
It’s worth noting that both Kuo and the poster on the aforementioned forum have a track record of providing accurate Apple predictions. It looks like a good bet that Apple will be completely revising its MacBook Air for the first time since its 2008 introduction.
