Over two years after its launch, the Nintendo 3DS has finally gained access to the world of cat videos and fail compilations, with the arrival of its very own YouTube app.
Available now as a free download, the Nintendo 3DS YouTube app has launched through the Nintendo eShop across North America and Europe, where it will join Hulu, which launched on the 3D capable portable console last month.
Making use of the 3DS’s full features list, the console’s top screen will display YouTube video content while the bottom screen will act as a set of touchscreen controls. The app can also be navigated via the handheld console’s triggers and buttons, allowing gamers to easily browse through millions of YouTube videos and channels on offer.
Despite the portable PS Vita rival featuring a 3D capable screen, one ironic limitation of the YouTube app introduction is the lack of 3D support for the video-sharing app.
This somewhat surprising omission has proven especially disappointing given how long it has taken for the Nintendo 3DS YouTube app to arrive.
With the Xbox One and PS4 having launched in the UK in recent weeks, Nintendo is facing increasing competition and pressure on the gaming scene.
Figures revealed earlier today have shown that both the Xbox One and PS4 have sold more UK units in their opening days on sale that the Nintendo Wii U has achieved in the UK since it first launched a little over a year ago.
