Samsung is reportedly working on a new 20-megapixel camera sensor for its future flagship phones, with the improved snapper tipped to feature on the Samsung Galaxy Note 4.
With the 20-megapixel camera sensor reportedly heading for handsets in the second half of 2014, the Nokia Lumia 1520 rivalling snapper will miss the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S5, with the Samsung Galaxy S4 follow-on tipped to make an appearance during the first quarter of the coming year.
Recent Samsung Galaxy S5 rumours have claimed that the iPhone 5S rival will sport a 16-megapixel camera at launch, leaving it in the shadows of the 41-megapixel Nokia Lumia 1020 and 20.7-megapixel Sony Xperia Z1.
While the S5 looks set to miss out, it has been suggested that the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 will become the first phone to pack the new 20-megapixel camera sensor. The reports come despite the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 having only been unveiled at IFA 2014 back in September.
Citing unnamed industry sources, Korean news outlet ET News has suggested that the 20-megapixel camera unit is still many months from a widespread rollout.
“Samsung Electronics began to develop the 20-megapixel smartphone camera module with a view to releasing it in the second half of 2014,” the sources stated.
Although it has recently been suggested that the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 could move closer to the 6-inch form factor milestone, little is currently known about the future stylus-hosting handset.
Earlier today it was claimed that a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Lite will be unveiled at MWC 2014, with the cut-price, reduced-spec handset heading to launch early in the New Year.
