Panasonic has officially taken the wraps off the Lumix GX7, its new premium CSC and long-awaited follow-up to the Panasonic Lumix GX1.
As the difference in number suggests, the GX7 is a significant leap forward from the GX1.
Chief among its new components has to be a brand new 16-megapixel image sensor that, whilst 'only' a Micro Four Thirds format, can apparently compete with the likes of the larger APS-C format (as found in Sony's NEX series) when it comes to low-light prowess.
Another useful new feature is in-body image stabilisation, which should liberate your use of alternative lenses.
Around back there's a 3-inch 1040k-dot tiltable touchscreen display, as well as a built-in tiltable 2740k-dot electronic viewfinder. Yep, it's all very tiltable.
You'll find two new control rings on top that provide direct access to aperture and shutter speed.
Maximum shutter speed is a very swift 1/8000 second, while ISO range has been stretched to 25,600.
As we reported last week, when details of the Panasonic Lumix GX7 first leaked, the company has switched to a new premium-feeling magnesium composition for its latest CSC.
It also comes with the option of a retro two-tone style, which is all the rage these days. Alternatively you can go with all-black.
The Panasonic Lumix GX7 is one fully connected device, with both Wi-Fi and NFC included. These will enable you to quickly pair up an iOS or Android device and use it to remotely control the camera via the Panasonic Image app.
Expect to see the Panasonic Lumix GX7 in shops some time this month, with the body-only version costing £819. If you want a 14-42mm lens as part of the package you'll have to pay £899, whilst a package that includes a 20mm f/1.7 lens will set you back £999.
