Samsung patents reportedly point to new S5 design
The Samsung Galaxy S5 could boast an all new design with an angled metal body replacing the S4’s plastic form, leaked patents have suggested.
With the Samsung Galaxy S4 having now been doing the rounds for a couple of months, attention has turned to its successor, with Samsung Galaxy S5 rumours becoming the subject to much speculation. Adding to early reports, a newly outed Samsung patent has claimed to show the redesigned form of the next-generation flagship phone.
Although Samsung Galaxy S5 specs have not been forthcoming, the claimed patent is the latest in a recent line of rumours pointing to the S4 replacement sporting an improved design. One of the few widely criticised areas of the S4, the HTC One rival features a cheap plastic design that does not fit with the rest of the phone’s high-end features and pricing.
Filed in Samsung’s native South Korea back in 2011 before being registered with the US Patent and Trademark Office last year, the Samsung phone design shows a handset with sharply angled corners, a big step away from the smooth curves of the Samsung Galaxy S4.
With few details offered on the planned device other than its rear-mounted camera and Android OS – based on the familiar trio of control icons – it has been suggested it will be crafted from metal to bring the company’s flagship smartphone brand in line with its biggest rivals, such as the iPhone 5.
Last month claimed sources close to Samsung suggested the mooted Samsung Galaxy S5 would host a new uni-body aluminium design. Although giving the phone a new high-end finish, it will reportedly see the handset lose out on a removable battery.
