Nintendo sold just 160,000 Wii U consoles between April and June of this year, while Wii U software sales for the quarter sit at just over a million.
To put these numbers into context, Nintendo sold 210,000 of its original Wii console during the same period.
The Kyoto-based games company recently revealed its lack of Wii U success during the first quarter of its financial year, representing a 51.3 percent drop in Wii U hardware sales on the previous quarter.
This means that the Wii U has sold just 3.61 million units globally, which is well short of the 5.5 million units Nintendo originally predicted by the end of March of this year.
The Wii U's prospects won't have been helped by the recent news that major UK retailer Asda has stopped supporting the console.
Of course, with the Nintendo Wii U still seemingly being manufactured and sold at a loss, any sales are going to hurt Nintendo's bottom line.
It's not all doom and gloom for Nintendo. Net sales are up 3.8 percent to 81.5 billion yen (roughly £547.5 million) with net profit at 8.6 billion yen (£57.9 million).
However, thanks to (arguably insufficient) research and developments costs relating to the Wii U and an increase in overseas marketing costs for the 3DS, Nintendo recorded an operating loss of 4.9 billion yen (£33 million) for the quarter.
Despite these disappointing numbers, Nintendo is sticking with its projections of nine million Wii U consoles and 38 million Wii U games sold for the year.
As always, the Nintendo 3DS handheld console seems to be propping the company up, with respectable hardware sales of 1.4 million and software sales of just over 14 million over the quarter.
