Tefal has launched a new version of the its popular low-fat fryer that it claims is smarter, faster and awesomer – we added that last one.

The new Tefal ActiFry Express XL, which is available from John Lewis for around £250, can now cook up to 1.5kg of fresh vegetables, chips in just 30 minutes.

As ever the aim is to use less oil, with the ActiFry using just 3 per cent oil compared to 9 per cent when oven cooked and 14 per cent from deep-fat frying.

Of course it's best known for cooking chips and with good reason – who doesn't like chips? But Tefal highlights its versatility thanks to 450 recipes available via its My ActiFry app and the fact it cook can vegetables, meat and fish, and even cook from frozen.

The ActiFry has been given a new look, too. It's rounder and is available in both black and white. Both the bowl and spoon are dishwasher safe, which should keep cleaning to a minimum.

That's not all that's new from Tefal today as it's also releasing the Tefal Effectis, which is the smallest steam generator iron it's ever made.

There are two versions: the GV6720 costs £150 and is available from Currys, Amazon and Tesco; the GV6760 is £170 and adds a Turbo Mode and smarter mode to set the right level of steam for the job.
