Xiaomi is hosting an event tomorrow; we knew that much already. What we didn’t know was that there would be two new smartphones taking up centre stage.

Yes, Xiaomi’s latest teaser image has confirmed that the fast-rising Chinese smartphone manufacturing is doubling down on its handset efforts, as noted by PhoneArena.

This builds on from rumours earlier today that suggested we might see a pair of handsets land tomorrow.

The new poster reads ‘is better than one’, with a picture of two hands holding invisible devices. N.B. tomorrow’s handsets are not likely to actually be transparent.

This means the most likely scenario is that we’ll see the launch of Xiaomi’s flagship Mi5 handset, as well as the larger Redmi Note 2/Mi5 Plus.

But wait, there’s more – a leaked promo poster has let slip that one of the devices will carry Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 810 chipset.

This handset is tipped to officially launch on January 23 in China, and is most likely to be the Mi5, being the prize horse and all.

Qualcomm unveiled its new chip late last year, and is only now beginning to trickle into smartphones. More will join the 810-toting roster around MWC time, rest assured.

The Snapdragon 810 brings with it a host of great features, not least 64-bit chip support, improved battery life, Cat.9 LTE carrier aggregation support, a built-in killswitch , and Adreno 430 graphics.

If the Mi5 landed with the Snapdragon 810, it would be one of the first to carry the chip, ranking it as one of the most powerful smartphones on the market.

There’s even more good news – the Mi5 has been rumoured for a western release, which means UK buyers may be in for a shot at purchasing the previously east-only blower.
