Talk about taking over the lounge...
Fancy a crack at virtual reality but don't want to wear a headset? Why not turn your lounge into an IMAX cinema?
That's the promise of Immersis, a new start-up seeking crowdfunding on Kickstarter. It works with video feeds and video games, projecting them onto your wall, and will adapt the image in real time to the shape and size of your room.
No more motion sickness from wearing a headset. And no more experiencing virtual worlds on your tod.
Hook it up to your PC, and it can project any image, be it photos, videos, games, whatever. If the feed is in 2D, the image will appear flat. But if it's 3D or panoramic, it will pop out at 180 degrees.
You can even integrate a TV, monitor or tablet into it, either to have one section higher resolution than the others, or for a specific touchscreen function.
The makers claim it only takes games developers a few minutes to make their titles compatible.

You will need a big white wall to get the most from it (a flowery pattern isn't going to look too good with hordes of tanks projected onto it).
The unit itself folds up to fit in a reinforced carry case, so you can take it round to a friend's house. It hooks up to your HDMI or DVI port, and projects in a 1,920x1,080-pixel resolution.
It's fast approaching its $100,000 funding goal and should ship around October. It has enormous potential, so rest assured, we'll be keeping an eye on it.
