Sony Xperia Z3 specs leaked with potential August launch date

Sony Xperia Z3 metal body?

The Sony Xperia Z3 could launch as soon as August, just months after its predecessor.

Despite the Sony Xperia Z2 release date occurring within the last month, it looks like Sony is preparing to launch yet another flagship in the coming months.

If the Xperia Z3 is announced in August, it will occur six months after the Z2 launch at MWC 2014 in February. Such a launch would make it the flagship smartphone for the latter half of 2014, but it certainly seems a little too soon for a flagship refresh.

The potential launch window comes with a leaked photograph that claims to be of the Z3’s metal frame. Apparently this frame is treated with a PVD coating that makes it more corrosion resistant, stronger and scratch-proof than the Sony Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z2.

This coating could also make the Z3 body a bit more environmentally friendly too, which is always a bonus.

However, this frame may well be a fake; as such a component could be easily made by those with the know-how.

Along with the image, the source revealed the purported specs for the Xperia Z3, which is expected to launch with a full 1080p HD display rather than QHD like the LG G3.

The Xperia Z3 will apparently pack a rather powerful 2.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor with 3GB of RAM.

From the looks of it, the Sony Xperia Z3 will pack the same 20.7-megapixel rear camera as both its predecessors.

Hopefully if Sony does launch the Z3 within the next few months, it will be more of an upgrade over the existing flagship than this leak suggests.

Of course, this rumour, as with all the others, should be taken with a large pinch of the proverbial salt until we get some more official details.
