Motorola has confirmed the Motorola Moto 360 smartwatch will charge wirelessly.
Philip Worth, a Motorola UK manager, has let slip that the Moto 360 features will include a wireless charging functionality.
Speaking to Dutch publication, Techzine, Worth admitted that the Moto 360 will charge by means of magnetic induction, something used in a variety of smartphones.
However, the technology hasn’t really been implemented in smartwatches as yet, apart from the Qualcomm Toq.
This would explain the lack of visible ports on the Moto 360 in the images and promotional videos we’ve seen so far.
Some had speculated that the Moto 360 could be charged kinetically, receiving power boosts with the user’s movements, but that has now been set straight.
The round-faced smartwatch is due to arrive sometime in the summer, with recent reports suggesting the Android Wear device will hit retailers in July.
If the rumours are accurate, the Moto 360 could arrive with a price tag around the €249 (£203) mark.
This could potentially mean the Moto 360 launches with a higher price than Android Wear rival the LG G Watch, which is expected to arrive with an approximate £179 cost.
Motorola hasn’t revealed very much in the way of specs for the Moto 360, but believes smartwatches already on the market don’t yet hit the right spot for consumers.
“Moto 360 is a really cool device that we think solves a lot of problems that no one else has solved in the wearables space,” said Motorola’s Senior VP of Supply Chain and Operations, Mark Randall, to TrustedReviews . “We look at the 360 and we look at what everyone has done in that space. To be honest we think they are all pretty crappy.”
