A Google Glass senior hardware engineer has left Google to join Oculus VR.
One senior hardware engineer for Google Glass has allegedly left Google to join the company responsible for the Oculus Rift augmented reality headset.
Adrian Wong, a senior hardware engineer with the Google Glass Explorer Edition has left Google for Oculus VR according to his LinkedIn page.
Previously, Wong was a Hardware Engineering Manager responsible for various aspects of both the Explorer Edition and Consumer Edition of Google Glass, including display subsystem design and architecture.
The Explorer Edition is the prototype version that shipped to developers and other early adopters looking to try the new augmented reality hardware before it becomes commercially available.
Now, Wong’s LinkedIn has been updated to say he currently works for Oculus VR as an engineer responsible for “building the metaverse”.
From the sounds of that, Wong will be working to enhance the way the physical reality and augmented reality converge with the Oculus Rift.
The word metaverse is usually used to describe future iterations of the internet, comprising of connected 3D virtual spaces to create a virtual universe.
Since Facebook announced the acquisition of Oculus VR back in March for $2 billion, several big names in technology have jumped on board the Oculus Rift ship.
Those include top Valve programmers Aaron Nicholls and Michael Abrash.
“I’m tremendously excited to join Oculus, and when I think back, it’s astonishing how unlikely the path to this moment is,” said Abrash announcing the move. “I now fully expect to spend the rest of my career pushing VR as far ahead as I can.”
