The first Android Wear watch is inbound
Following the Android Wear powered gadget’s unveiling last week, Korean manufacturer LG has offered up a new glimpse of the inbound LG G Watch.
Although confirmed specs on the upcoming Motorola Moto 360 rival remain sparse, the newly released LG G Watch picture offers the best look yet of the full colour touchscreen hosting watch. The image has emerged via the official LG UK Twitter feed.
Unlike the Moto 360 which boasts a authentically watch-esque round display, the LG G Watch will host a square display and run Google’s recently confirmed Android Wear OS – a wearables reworking of the globally dominant smartphone and tablet operating system.
Set to be compatible with a “wide range of Android smartphones,” the LG G Watch is being designed in close partnership with Google and has been confirmed for a Q2 release date.
Although remain cagey on finalised LG G Watch specs, speaking exclusively with TrustedReviews last week, LG’s European Director of Mobile Communications James Marshall suggested the new wearable will be “an entirely new beast” to the 2009 launched LG Watch Phone.
Adding that the G Watch will “ride the current wave of wearables,” Marshall told us that the Samsung Galaxy Gear rival marks “a clear statement of intent” for the company in the smartwatch space.
“We will provide more information in the coming days and weeks,” Marshall stated. “Right now all we are able to tell you is that we are working closely with Google in collaboration to bring the LG G Watch to market.”
He added: “You can expect it in quarter two of this year, so very, very quickly, and obviously that means more information will fall out and we will let you know as soon as that becomes available.”
