The HTC One M8 is official
The eagerly awaited HTC One M8 has been officially unveiled, with the Samsung Galaxy S5 rival formally announced with a heavily rumoured twin lens camera.
A high-end handset with a stunning brushed metal design, the all new HTC One M8 runs a quad-core processor and 4-ultrapixel camera that will see the handset line up as a direct revival to the recently confirmed Sony Xperia Z2.
“We fundamentally believe in the [metal] design,” Graham Wheeler, a Product Manager with HTC said of the newly unveiled HTC One M8.
On the refinements made to the premium metal design of last year’s original HTC One he added: “We wanted to make sure it was the most aesthetically pleasing phone ever.”
HTC One M8 Features
As current smartphone trends dictate, the HTC One M8 has grown in size over last year’s model. Jumping from a 4.7-inch form, the new model hosts a 5-inch SLCD display with the now customary 1920 x 1080p Full HD resolution. The HTC One M8 screen features a 441 pixels-per-inch image density.
Powered by a 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor and 2GB of RAM, the HTC One M8 runs Google’s latest Android 4.4 KitKat OS.
Around back and it’s all about the new twin camera sensor. The f/2.0, 1/3-inch 4-megapixel UltraPixel sensor on the phone’s primary camera is paired with a smaller second lens to allow the handset to better capture depth in images.
A move that is pushing the smartphone camera to new levels, the twin sensor snapper is further enhanced by a dual LED two-tone flash and partnered with an improved 5-megapixel camera up front.
The luxurious metal bodied design features more rounded edges than last year’s model and sees the handset line up at 166g in weight. At launch the HTC One M8 will be available in a trio of colours – Amber Gold, Metal Grey and Arctic Silver.
In terms of connectivity, the HTC One M8 runs all the standards, with 4G and NFC options thrown in alongside Wi-Fi and Bluetooth options. As with the original HTC One, the M8 boasts forward-facing BoomSound speakers, now with loudness-increasing DSP drivers.
Unlike last year’s model, the HTC One M8, which features 16GB of internal storage, supports microSD expansion. With a SD slot hidden with the phone’s right edge, the handset can be expanded up to 128GB.
Hosting a sizeable 2600mAh Lithium-Ion battery, the HTC One M8 supports Quick Charge functionality which will reportedly allow the handset to achieve 80 per cent charge following just one hour connected to the mains.
HTC One M8 Release Date and Price
Although the handset has been officially unveiled, at present an official HTC One M8 release date is still to be confirmed.
Similarly the HTC One M8 price is still to be announced, although, with this array of premium innards and design don’t expect it to be cheap.
