iPhone 5S apps crashing twice as often as iPhone 5 and 5C

Owners of Apple's new iPhone 5S handset are dealing with twice as many app crashes as those still rocking the iPhone 5 or those who opted for the iPhone 5C, a new study has claimed.

Figures from the Crittercism group claim programs crash two percent of the time for the iPhone 5S, compared with under 1 per cent for the iPhone 5S and year-old iPhone 5 handset.

The group looked at hundreds of app launches on all three phones to reach its conclusions, with all three devices running on the new iOS 7 software.

The company's CEO Andrew Levy told AllThingsD that the issues are common with new hardware and software and will likely be ironed out soon.

He said: "Anytime there is new hardware or software release, we see issues. Inevitably, over time, those issues get resolved.”

“The good news is that Apple is certainly aware of issues They’ve pushed out two iOS updates for iOS 7 … Apple is doing a really good job of addressing these issues as they come up.”

The reason apps are crashing on the iPhone 5S rather than the other two iOS 7 devices may be due to the shift to Apple's new 64-bit A7 processor, but so far Apple has done an admirable job of making the transition as easy as possible for its app developers.

When pushed for comment, Apple declined.
