Thief reboot confirmed for Xbox One

Eidos Montreal has confirmed that Thief will be coming to the recently revealed Xbox One console.

Stephane D’Astous, Eidos Montreal General Manager has revealed that the Thief reboot will be coming to Microsoft’s next-generation console.

“The team at Eidos-Montreal is thrilled to confirm that Thief is coming to Xbox One,” said D’Astous. “The next generation of home consoles allows us to create the best and the most immersive Thief game ever.”

Previously known as Thief 4, the reboot is now simply called Thief, similar to the Tomb Raider reboot Square Enix launched earlier this year.

“The feedback we have received so far is simply amazing and we can’t wait to show more of Thief at E3 this year.”

Eidos Montreal also offered a new Thief screenshot with the Xbox One release announcement, which depicts a burning room with large staircase.

Said to have been in development for four years already, the long-awaited sequel has been plagued by key members of its team departing for other developer studios.

At the start of last month, Eidos Montreal released the first Thief trailer, entitled Out of Shadows. Certainly aimed at fans loyal to the series, the reboot will aim to bring the original games into the next-generation.

The game stars Garrett, a thief with a mysterious past, and asks players to perfect the thieving craft including looting, lockpicking, stealth, pick-pocketing and more.

“Into this shadowy world steps Garrett the Master Thief in a first-person adventure featuring intelligent design that allows players to take full control, with freedom to choose how they approach and overcome each challenge and forge their own path through the game,” states EA Montreal on the game.

Anyone looking forward to the Thief reboot will be able to see gameplay footage at E3 in June.
