New Xbox reveal preceded by Xbox 360’s 28th month atop sales charts

The Xbox 360 has reached its 28th consecutive month as the top console in the US, still outselling all other consoles.

Selling more units than any other console, the Xbox 360 is still the most popular console in the US, maintaining the top spot for the 28th month in a row.

According to the new data from The NPD Group, the Xbox 360 holds a 42 per cent share of the console market in the US and sold 130,000 units in April alone, enabling it to maintain such a market lead over rival PS3 and Nintendo Wii U consoles.

The total amount spent on Xbox 360 hardware, software and accessories in the US reached $208 million (£136.9 million). This is more than any console to date in the US.

New Xbox Reveal

The news of the Xbox 360’s continued success comes just a day ahead of the next Xbox 720 reveal by the Xbox team and Microsoft’s President of Interactive Entertainment Business Don Mattrick.

Microsoft will unveil its next-generation console at the Xbox reveal on May 21 at its Redmond campus in Washington, starting at 6pm BST. Anyone excited to see the Xbox reveal can watch live on Xbox.com and Xbox Live.

“On that day, we’ll share our vision for Xbox, and give you a real taste of the future,” said Larry Hyrb, Microsoft’s Director of Programming for Xbox Live, better known by his Xbox Live gamertag Major Nelson.

There will also be a pre-E3 Microsoft Xbox briefing on June 10, where the company said it will “showcase our full lineup of blockbuster games” for the next-generation console.

At tomorrow’s unveiling we are bound to see a few game demos, including an already confirmed slot for Call of Duty: Ghosts footage.
