Microsoft has announced two new budget Windows Phone devices, the Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL.
The company had already accidentally published a blank article announcing the two smartphones over the weekend, and we also saw them crop up back in November. But now they've been made official.
As the names suggest, the Lumia 640 and the Lumia 640 XL are follow-ups to last year's Nokia Lumia 630 and Lumia 635. Both have modest quad-core Snapdragon 400 processors with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage.
Both displays are 720p, though the Lumia 640's is 5-inch and the 640 XL's is 5.7-inch.
That's not the only difference between the two, either. While the Lumia 640 has an 8-megapixel camera, the Lumia 640 XL appears to have a more advanced 13-megapixel camera.
Another common feature is that both phones will ship with a one-year subscription to Microsoft's Office 365 suite.

Both will come in 3G and 4G guises. The 3G Lumia 640 will cost €139, while the 4G version will cost €159. Meanwhile the 3G Lumia 640 XL will cost €189 and the 4G version €219.
The Lumia 640 XL should launch first, some time later this month, while the Lumia 640 is headed for a May release.
With these two low-end phones, Microsoft continues the low-to-mid range assault of the early days of its Lumia brand ownership. It seems we'll have to wait for Windows 10's arrival later in the year for a proper high-end Lumia 930 successor.
