Facebook is working on virtual reality versions of its existing apps, the company’s head of product has revealed.
Chris Cox, speaking at Recode’s Code Media conference in California (via The Verge), explained that work was in progress, but declined to provide much detail on the matter.
“We’re working on apps for VR,” said Cox, explaining how Facebook users might one day be able to share their environments with friends, which would then be realised in VR style.
He also seemed hopeful that the technology would one day be ubiquitous, stating “You’ll do it. Beyoncé will do it.”
Unfortunately, the best answer Cox could muster as to when we’d see Facebook in VR proper was ‘a while’.
“We’re a long way away from everyone having those headsets,” the Facebook lead explained.

It’s not too surprising that Facebook is working on virtual reality software. The company bought out Oculus VR last year for a hefty $2 billion.
The VR space is also becoming increasingly crowded, with Samsung and Google having launched the Gear VR and Cardboard headsets respectively.
Similarly, the VR app market is rapidly expanding, with both Apple’s App Store and Google’s Play Store already hosting a smorgasbord of VR content.
