Amsterdam Arena will host the global premiere of AIR this year, showcasing the world’s first drone-only circus spectacular that undoubtedly foreshadows the end of humanity.

Gone are the days when a sword-lobbing clown teetering atop a unicycle was enough to beguile your average punters. Instead, we’ve now resorted to outsourcing entertainment to legions of unmanned aerial vehicles.

The event is confirmed to be in collaboration with the Royal Netherlands Air Force, although there’s no date or ticket pricing set just yet.

The trailer for the drone extravaganza is tellingly haunting. It opens with a dusky sea view - no doubt a metaphor for the sunset on human global dominance, and the washing away of civilisation under the waves of drone-kind.

The UAVs then proceed to show off their technological prowess inside the stadium, their glowing bodies swooping and hovering ominously.

“Ballet and battles, races and lasers, circus and illusions, magic and machines,” read the captions. A façade for something more sinister, we’re sure.

In this high energy and explosive show, drones will take centre stage to bring a collaboration and fusion of music, video, projects, and special effects,” event promoter Fjuze said, describing the spectacle.
